In the months of September and October we saved our clients over $150,000 in postage across 36 million pieces.  We have developed an efficient, user friendly, guaranteed way to provide the greatest savings in the industry.  Our clients are saving an average of $7 to $10 per thousand on packages of 50,000 to 100,000 pieces; on packages of 50,000 pieces or less, savings can be between $20 and $30 per thousand!

We expect the May 2009 Postal rate increase to average 5% across all mail classes.  The Postal Service will use the December Consumer Price Index 12 month average as the cap for constructing the increase, to be announced in February 2009.

The Latest on USPS Move Update Requirements

usps move update requirements

The new Move Update requirements take effect on November 23, 2008 and are applicable to First-Class and Standard mail that has been discounted by sorting or automation. This includes letters, flats and parcel mail.  We answer some FAQ's below.

When will the penalties for Move Update non-compliance be announced?
Postal reform legislation passed in 2006 requires a 45-day review and comment period for the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) when the USPS is introducing any new prices or products. Industry experts expect the USPS to begin the PRC review of non-compliance penalties in February 2009.  Penalties are expected to take effect in May 2009.

What are the penalties likely to be when the USPS does file a request?
A penalty of $.07 per piece, applicable to the entire mailing, has been widely discussed for Standard mail.

How did the USPS come up with the $.07 per piece figure?
Standard mail does not have a "full rate" as First-Class mail does.  The difference between the First-Class full letter rate and the discounted rate at the 5 digit, 3 digit, AADC and Mixed AADC categories averages out to $.07.  Voila!

When will penalty enforcement begin?
It is doubtful that we will see non-compliance fines imposed until the USPS MERLIN equipment is upgraded to enable it to test the accuracy of the name/address hygiene.  We expect this to happen around February 2009. In the meantime, the USPS will be working with offenders to bring them into compliance before imposing a fine.

Does this mean we don't have to comply with Move Update until February 2009?
No, it means that there is a grace period of several months before penalties are assessed for failure to meet the Move Update requirements, but mailers are not absolved from the responsibility to comply with the new regulations.  Your Production Solutions contact will be pleased to help you prepare USPS form 6014 to document your compliance with the Move Update requirements.

Are you looking for a fast and easy way to cut costs without having to eliminate components from your next campaign?

Of course you are!

One of the most convenient ways to save money is to choose a paper stock that is slightly lighter in weight than your current selection; by doing so, you will save money without having to sacrifice elements from your mailing.

Although you could tweak almost any print piece, the most common changes include lowering reply envelope stock weight from 24# to 20# (white wove) and letter stock weight from 60# to 50# (offset).  These slight, effortless alterations could save you $.50 per thousand to $2.00 per thousand depending on your print quantity and vendor paper stock availability.

Although initial savings may seem minute, when looking at the big picture every penny adds up!  For example, if you were to print 250,000 letters on 50# paper instead of 60# you could potentially save $125.00 to $500.00.  If you printed at this quantity five times per year you would save between $625.00 and $2,500.00!

Your Production Solutions contact can assist you in customizing your next mailing for optimal cost savings and will provide stock samples upon request.  Let your contact know you are interested in exploring alternative stock weights!
Thank you again for choosing Production Solutions as a partner for your direct marketing needs!

Sincerely,
