Q2 2019 Trend Report

We believe that the best way to predict the future is to create the one you want.

Our trend report delivers key insights and information about trends that will impact the direct mail landscape in the near future. Knowing what is on the horizon is strategically the best place to start protecting the investment into your organization’s direct mail program. Here are three big trends that we have on our radar for Q2 of 2019.

Census 2020 – Planning for the Impact

We are forecasting that the 2020 Census will impact the paper and printing markets. Formally commencing on April 1, 2020, Census 2020 will begin printing in August 2019. With an estimated 25,000 tons needed for just one job, this will likely be completed by several mills. We anticipate overall availability of resources to be impacted due to the sheer volume of this once in a decade job. We are working to have creative solutions on hand ready to deploy as needed.

USPS Marketing Mail Letter and Flat Rates Remain Unchanged

USPS announced that there will be no changes to Marketing Mail letters and flats requirements & no additional restrictions for the contents of the package. They will continuously review and re-evaluate the requirements to identify whether they are machinable/eligible for automation. Their focus will remain on identifying non-machinable mailings, but they have communicated at this time their commitment to understanding the impact to our industry, so we are celebrating this as a win.
