Informed Delivery: 2021 Year in Review and Looking Ahead into 2022

2021 was a banner year for many Informed Delivery enthusiasts! Starting from humble beginnings in 2014, the program had its most explosive year yet in 2021, and 2022 looks to grow exponentially again. If you are currently a subscriber, I am sure you have noticed the dramatic uptick in Informed Delivery campaigns in your inbox over the past year, and especially over the USPS (United States Postal Service) promotion period last fall.

As a refresher, Informed Delivery is the program created by the USPS that allows mail recipients to see their mailpieces online prior to them arriving in their mailbox. Most subscribers receive these scanned images in their email every morning. I (rudely, I know) check mine every day at the breakfast table, but my family allows it because they want to know what is coming in too!

Currently, the USPS reports that they now have over 45 million users (about twice the population of New York), and almost 150 thousand campaigns! Over 17 thousand brands are also now represented with Informed Delivery, with Production Solutions assisting dozens of those clients ourselves. In 2021, PS mailed 200 million mailpieces that were paired with an Informed Delivery campaign AND created 1,600 individual campaigns – both new records for us!

Part of the reason for the success of Informed Delivery in 2021 was certainly due to the USPS postal promotion that came in the fall. It enabled organizations to receive a 2% discount on their postage on any job mailed from September 1 through November 30. Here at Production Solutions, almost every one of our Informed Delivery clients took part in it, receiving $200k in postage savings!

But the good news does not end there! Looking ahead into 2022, the USPS has extended the length of the promotion by TWO MONTHS! August 1 through December 31! On top of that, the 2% postage discount will double to 4%!! There already was little reason to shy away from trying out Informed Delivery this year anyway, but with the savings doubling, it is truly a no brainer!

In that role, he is responsible for all things postal, as well as cybersecurity management for the PS supplier base. A graduate of the University of Maine, he has also received his MBA from Northeastern University with a dual-concentration in Supply Chain Management and Sustainability. Alex lives in the Portland, Maine area with his wife, two kids, and more pets than might seem reasonable! He spends his free time on golf, hockey, camping, and traveling with his family and friends.
