Michelle Johnston and Joe Gomez joined fundraising professionals at DMFA to explore the production strategies that help turn creative ideas into successful fundraising campaigns.

Last week, Michelle Johnston, Senior Manager of Strategic Development, had the opportunity to present Direct Mail Production 101 as part of a day-long fundraising education program in New York hosted by the Direct Marketing Fundraisers Association (DMFA). While the event covered a variety of fundraising topics, the production session focused on helping attendees better understand what happens after a campaign leaves the creative process and enters production.

Many participants were new to the direct mail industry, making for an engaging discussion about how production decisions impact quality, timelines, budgets, and ultimately, campaign success. The session combined production fundamentals with practical examples, giving attendees a clearer understanding of the collaboration required to bring successful fundraising campaigns to life.

Michelle was joined by Joe Gomez, Business Development Director, at PS. Together, they answered questions and shared perspectives from both the strategic and business development sides of the industry, creating a dynamic discussion throughout the session. Many attendees remarked on the caliber of the speaker lineup and the unique opportunity to spend the day learning alongside so many respected leaders from across the fundraising community.

Beyond the presentations, the event fostered meaningful networking, providing time to connect with industry colleagues, including Jenn Bullard, Senior Account Manager at PS and current President of DMFA, while also welcoming many professionals who are beginning their fundraising careers. A happy hour and mini golf outing gave attendees another opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen relationships, and continue learning from one another in a more informal setting.

Events like these are a reminder that one of the greatest strengths of the fundraising community is its willingness to share knowledge. Whether someone has spent decades in the industry or is attending their first educational program, there is always something new to learn as well as something valuable to contribute.
