“Hello everyone, Ben Harris here, President with Production Solutions, coming back at you with tip number 3 in the Benlightenment series of 5 tips for Self Innovation! 

Number three is The Written and Spoken Word. As I mentioned in the Intro video, taking some time each day to write down your thoughts, your goals, your ideas, even some of your fears or doubts, and getting them out of your head and onto a piece of paper really sends a signal to your brain that you want to do something about or with that thought. And it brings a lot of intentionality, and structure, and realness, to the ideas, the goals, the actions, the gratitude statements, whatever it might be. 

There’s a lot of great science and studies out there that show that writing first thing in the morning is when our brains are freshest and most alive with energy and new thoughts from the night before. So take some time to either gratitude journal or write your goals down, write your intentions down, write your daily mantra down for the day, and your purpose which was for part of Step 1 and step 2.

And then take it a step further in the spoken word, starting to then take what you write and speaking it to another human being, someone close to you, a mentor, a friend, a sibling, a spouse, anyone that you trust who can give you honest feedback, and be there for you to help that thought or that statement or some of those ideas, even some of those fear, come to life or be dispelled, or be substantiated. 

There’s wonderful neuroscience that really shows that when you write something, you take it one step further and making it really real and actionable, and then when you add the spoken word to it when u are actually speaking it to someone else – those two combined (writing AND speaking) improve not only success with that item but also, move it forward by up to 25%. So it gets us out of this ruminating state of having it (the thought or idea) spin in our head, you write it down, make it tangible, and then speak it. This makes it actionable and is a ‘power punch’ to really get the results you want to get.

Katherine is PS’ Brand Communications Associate and she has been serving with PS since 2019. Living in Great Falls, Virginia, Katherine loves writing and reading about self-improvement topics, practicing mindfulness meditation, trying international cuisines, and learning about people’s stories. Katherine is passionate about philosophy and spiritual development, she lived in Italy for five months, and she has been skydiving twice and highly recommends it!

Responsible for supporting and executing internal and external communications for PS, Katherine ensures consistent brand messaging and engagement. She supports PS leadership by writing the company Win Report and newsletters, gives a voice to the incredible work being accomplished at PS through blogs, manages social media and supports sales enablement activities. Katherine loves contributing to a mission that has purpose and makes a powerful impact.
